when I'm writing underneath the treehouse:~/workspace$ pops us a things that says "picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS: -Xmx128m

is it normal to do so?

Craig explains that line in the Teacher's Notes for the first video for the course.

Yes, it is normal and not an error. If, however, your code was supposed to output something and only this was returned,, then you may have an error somewhere in the code.
