When should you use HTML entities?

When should you use html entities and when should you use the character on the keyboard? Obviously, if the keyboard doesn't include the character, then you have to use the entity. But should you use the HTML entity instead of a percentage symbol or an ampersand?

Reserved characters in HTML must be replaced with character entities.

Characters, not present on your keyboard, can also be replaced by entities.

Some characters are reserved in HTML.

If you use the less than (<) or greater than (>) signs in your text, the browser might mix them with tags.

Character entities are used to display reserved characters in HTML.
