I'd say the best time to start making a website is now. You'll learn as much, if not more, from making a website as you will from deep dives and the like. Then you will see where you need to learn more, learn that and then do it all over again.

No-one is ever "ready" to start making, and it can be a dangerous road to go down if you wait until you think you know enough to start. You actually want to make a website that in 9 months you can look back at and wonder what you were thinking of because you've learned so much in that time.

As I said, the worst that can happen is you expose your weaknesses to yourself and you become more aware of where to target your future learning in the short-term.

I didn't even go past your first sentence. You will learn so much by just starting the process. Also, this is the mantra of a popular podcast Shop Talk Show...."Just Build Websites!"

What's great about building a website is that you see your results instantly. Try building your own buttons, playing around with lists and positioning and put it all together. You'll be surprised by what you can do! Just play around cause once you build it, you can pop it into a browser and see what your code is doing.

Just jump in dude. You're not going to break anything and you'll start to think about wanting to do things which will lead you on to research them and thus increase your knowledge.

You'll find you'll forget what you learnt 4 weeks ago if you wait to finish everything before starting a site.

If you're short on ideas, just copy a site, of course though, for local use only.

Ok i here you. What i dont know is the stages in making a website like i know i got to start with photoshop first but i havnt learnt that yet so should i go straight to the photoshop course so when i do start making website i know the exact steps i need to take like photoshop > cut it out > prepare for websites > code.

Photoshop isn't absolutely essential. Play around on the side with both.

Rickel,

I exactly understand your problem. I actually did wait for a while before I made my first website. At the point when I made first website, I got >5000 points on Treehouse and even learned back-end programming already. But when I start making my first website, reality hits that I still need to go through all the basics. I still spend a lot of time messing with my css lol. I'd say get out paper and pencil and start doodling. You can start with your personal website (say the about me page, probably the easiest page to make). Then you look over the drawing that you have and ask, based on what I know which part I can start making right away with knowledge from html css deep dive? Sure, some stuff you'll have to wait until you know illustrator, photoshop, frameworks etc.

Did you do smells like bakin' project yet? Perhaps that class will help you see that you can do a LOT with what you learned from deep dive.

ohh i see. thats good advice, thanks Jah and everyone!. Ill start with a personal website after i finished the deep dive on html and css. in implement everything ill learnt into that small website.

Thanks guys!

I say, Go for it ! its a win a win situation when starting out your FIRST website. You learn overtime. As nick said, start from hard coding and start with basic stuff that YOU know. Don't mind the design just yet. Don't expect too much out of it, overtime while watching teamtreehouse tutorials, you will have additional knowledge on adding contents on your page.

I just heard a great philosophy from one of the instructors here in treehouse.

"You learn to walk before you can run." it takes time to be a beast web developer/designer! good luck!

You don't need photoshop or illustrator to make websites.. Unless you want to know them. As someone said to me on here before. You're web designer not a graphic designer. You can create basic websites with images/icons you find on the web, very easily from what I've seen.

oh i see. ill just design it on paper first.
