I second Kevin's suggestion and would add that Google itself offers information on SEO best practices. You might start with their pdf guide: http://static.googleusercontent.com/media/www.google.com/en//webmasters/docs/search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf The guide is 5 years old (so I would definitely complement it with a more current source like moz.com). However, the guide will focus on SEO practices that are unlikely to become irrelevant anytime soon and you'll know the practices aren't SEO short term 'tricks' that may stop working (or even hurt your site's rankings) as Google often updates their algorithm to make sure their product (search) meets their users' needs (search results that return only good, relevant content).

Having a low bounce rate. Google analytics helps a lot, but the only thing that matters is conversions. Does it sell?

I think social media marketing trumps all of this. Because if you have good following. You don't have try as hard with SEO.
