Where is my Code???

I doing a Python track and from time to time I go back to have a look at my old code, but wait...

WHAAAAAAAAAT?! My old code that I spent hours writing is not there anymore, instead, I see a screen that looks as if I have never done this, a blank state.

What is going on here? I mean seriously, I am not paying for this service and then having my hard work wiped.

Are you creating in a workspace?

And if so, do you remember to "save" your work? In that case, you might try closing the workspace and launching it again.

Or I might have the wrong idea entirely, in which case you might try being a bit more explicit about the issue and contacting the Support staff directly.

Hi there,

I code on https://repl.it/, not workspaces, but that is not the where the code is getting wiped.

I finished as set of code challenges yesterday and this morning, when I go to review that code, the code is gone. I am pressing "next challenge", after each challenge, so it should be saving then. With Udacity, when I put my in and "save", move on and then later come back, the code is still there.

I have asked support about this, as I can't see that this right, something must be wrong somewhere.

Thanks again for your input

I'm pretty sure the challenges don't store anything between sessions. Most of them don't require a lot of coding, so once you figure out what to do, it shouldn't take long to create a solution and pass. Any code provided to start with should re-appear when you run the challenge again.

Huh, "I'm pretty sure the challenges don't store anything between sessions." Oh Yikes!

Thanks for clearing that up! but Why ? ? ?

That's my code, it's my work, it is what took me a long time to do, I don't want to go and have to work it out again, it took me 2 hours this morning to recreate yesterdays work. This is my learning journey, I want to see how my code progressed, what I learned, how I did it.

My journey just being wiped, is akin to my FB comments or photos being removed, sure I could take those photos again... but at what time cost. Why does udacity others save this data but this amazingly well-designed site does not?

This is a learning impediment because I need review stuff and don't want to save my work offline or have to bother with managing a gazillion, septillion files on a workspace. This kind of forces me to go and deal do file management through workspace, which is not what I want to do, makes things more complicated than they need to be.

Thanks again, at least I know what is happening now

My own experience is that the code challenges don't take long once you know how to solve them. I can imagine doing research for it might take a while, but that time shouldn't need to be redone.

But if you need to leave a challenge before you pass and you don't want to replicate your current state next time, I would suggest that you just copy the code from the page and paste it into a local file. Then you can do the opposite in your next session to put it back.

And if you really think this is a feature that should be added you could suggest it to the Support staff.

:)

Will do, I think it is in line with what others are doing and I can see the benefits of it.

Thanks again
