Python Python Basics (2015) Letter Game App Random Item

Where is the mistake

First, import the random library.

Then create a function named random_item that takes a single argument, an iterable. Then use random.randint() to get a random number between 0 and the length of the iterable, minus one. Return the iterable member that's at your random number's index

item.py
import random

def random_item(num):
    for letter in num:
        letter=random.randit(0,2)
        return num[letter]

# EXAMPLE
# random_item("Treehouse")
# The randomly selected number is 4.
# The return value would be "h"

:point_right: It looks like you have three separate issues here:

  • you don't need (and should not have) a loop
  • when you select the index ("letter"), the upper limit should be based on the argument length
  • the function name is "randint" (not "randit")
