Why aren't the jQuery mouse event handlers (mouseup, mousedown, etc.) in camelCase?

Why aren't the jQuery mouse event handlers (mouseup, mousedown, etc.) called with camelCase? Shouldn't they be mouseUp, mouseDown, and so on?

That seems to run against convention and could be a major source of annoyance.

Haha, I thought the same thing to when I came across those event handlers. It's hard to break from such a habit and wonder why my code isn't working due to something so trivial. I don't have the answer of why. I'm just relating to your pain.

I'd guess it might have something to do with the DOM than jQuery itself since the mouse events are more of a browser event. I could be wrong.
