17,246 PointsWhy can I change the contents of the hello.txt file even when it belongs to someone else? - CONSOLE FOUNDATIONS
I have two users. Treehouse and gh05t (Yes, I know)
The hello.txt file belongs to gh05t. The permissions on that file are:
-rwxrwxr-- : This means everyone in the group gh05t, and gh05t himself can RW and X the file, but anyone else can just read it.
While logged in as treehouse, I am free to edit the file and write out the changes without any problems?
To test to see if I actually have privileges, I try to change the permissions as treehouse with chmod and cannot, because I don't have permission.

17,246 PointsOk, I understand now. Even though gh05t should have his own group, he does not belong to it. The file is shown as:
-rwxrwxr-- 1 gh05t treehouse meaning he belongs to the treehouse group and so do I, which is why I can edit it.
