Why can't I preview the workspace?

I am on the "Async Programming and Callback Functions" lesson. I created t getJSON(astrosUrl); at the end of my javascript and pressed preview and a few port options opened up.

I tried clicking on each one and I receive an error.

I am unable to preview the workspace.

Does anyone know how I can preview the workspace?

Thank you!

The workspace from that video does preview successfully for me. I would first try closing the workspace and reopening it. If that doesn't do it, try opening it with a different browser. If you're still having trouble after that, I can help you troubleshoot with a bit more information.

What specific behavior are you seeing? Does it open at all? Does it give an error? What browser(s) have you tried? What changes have you made to the code? Post a snapshot of your workspace.

Hopefully it works out, but please let me know if you're still stuck. Happy coding!

Hi rydavim, thank you for responding. I am using Epic browser as I always have. I just tried to preview the workspace using Chrome and had the same issue.

When I go to press the preview button a little drop-down menu opens ups with different ports to choose from. I have tried each port and still am unable to preview the workspace.

The workspace itself works fine. I haven't made any changes to the code yet.

How do I attach a snapshot of the window I see when attempting to preview the workspace in both Chrome and Epic browser?

I definitely screenshotted it, if that's a word. I pasted it into my paint program. I can see it. But how do I attach it to this post?

Thank you again!

Daven

Probably the easiest way to post a screenshot would be to use something like Imgur. If you could also post a snapshot of your workspace using the camera icon near the top right, that would be helpful for troubleshooting.

Sorry you're having this issue! If we're not able to solve it, I'll see if I can get in touch with the team for some more in-depth help.

Well since I cannot use the workspace I am trying to use Visual Studio Code. I don't know how to use Visual Studio Code. In the video it says that I should see three files "css, js, and index.html"... THERE ARE FOUR OF THEM! 1 = async-programming-and-callback-functions. 2 = implemen-a-callback. 3 = stepping-through-async-code. 4 = managing-nested-callbacks. Each one of these folders contains the three files "css, js, and index.html". I have no idea which one I am supposed to use!

How am I supposed to know which ones to use for the project!? This is very frustrating. I have been unable to continue with my progress for over a week now!

If you're able to post the screenshot and snapshot, we can keep troubleshooting workspaces if you'd like.

If you'd prefer to try using your own editor, I don't know much about Visual Studio Code but the files are organized according to the course layout. Using this video as an example, you'd want to open the files in asynchronous-programming-with-javascript > 2- Asynchronous JavaScript with Callbacks > 2-async-programming-and-callback-functions > start. So that's the base folder, the general section you're on, the specific video you're at, and then either the starting code or the final solution.

I've also ping'd some other folks to see if we can get you up and running again.

rydavim, I really appreciate your time and patience. I apologize for being so brash on the last post:/ I was frustrated with the situation.

I think I need to learn how to use a text editor after all it is the primary way I will be interfacing with code in the future. I am in the process of absorbing that information as I type. I found an awesome VS code tutorial right here on teamtreehouse! It was very helpful. Now I am taking the node.js basics course. After that I think I will be able to resume the Asynchronous JavaScript lesson.

I was able to take a snapshot of my screen but unable to easily copy it to a post for review.

Anyways, I just wanted to take the time to respond since you took the time to do the same.

Thank you rydavim, you are awesome! Have a fantastic day!

Sorry we weren’t able to solve your original issue, but you’re certainly correct that it’s worth learning to use a good external coding environment. It’ll have more features, and give you a better experience when you’re writing your own programs.

I’m glad you’re feeling more positive, and were able to find that VS tutorial. Happy coding going forward!

Okay, It has been 31 days. I have been trying to figure out how to use VS code. I have learned alot. But really It has done nothing but slowed me down. I took and completed the VS code lesson. I took and completed the terminal lesson. I took and completed the node.js lesson.

I am still unable to get through the asynchronous javascript lesson with VS Code.

I feel like all of this frustration can be avoided if I could just use the workspace with this lesson.

Again 31 days!!!!!

31 days of no progress. This is preposterous.

I just took another screen shot of the workspace error window.

I have it on my computer.

HOW DO I COPY IT TO THIS POST?

I think this is probably beyond what your fellow students can help with. I would recommend contacting Treehouse support staff directly at help@teamtreehouse.com.
