Why can't we use playButton.onclick = playlist.play?

We can typically do element.onclick = functionRef; But in this case, we're creating an additional anonymous function to call playlist.play. Any reason?

Because later in that video he passes arguments/parameters to an additional/second function.

If you just pass the function reference, you can only have one function and you can't specify the arguments/parameters (I believe onclick will just send the event object).
