Java Java Objects (Retired) Harnessing the Power of Objects Throwing Exceptions

Why do I get an error saying it cant find the symbol: IllegalArgumentExeption?

public void drive(int laps) { // Other driving code omitted for clarity purposes int newAmount = mBarsCount + laps; if(newAmount > MAX_BARS) { throw new IllegalArgumentExeption("Not enough battery remains"); } }

GoKart.java
public class GoKart {
  public static final int MAX_BARS = 8;
  private String mColor;
  private int mBarsCount;

  public GoKart(String color) {
    mColor = color;
    mBarsCount = 0;
  }

  public String getColor() {
    return mColor;
  }

  public void drive() {
    drive(1);
  }

  public void drive(int laps)
  {
    // Other driving code omitted for clarity purposes
    int newAmount = mBarsCount + laps;
    if(newAmount > MAX_BARS)
    {
      throw new IllegalArgumentExeption("Not enough battery remains");
    }
  }

  public void charge() {
    while (!isFullyCharged()) {
      mBarsCount++;
    }
  }

  public boolean isBatteryEmpty() {
    return mBarsCount == 0;
  }

  public boolean isFullyCharged() {
    return mBarsCount == MAX_BARS;
  }

}

Hi Erik,

It looks like you have a bit of faulty logic for determining the exception clause. You want to determine when the number of laps requested is greater than the current battery level found in the mBarsCount member variable. Looks like you were thinking about it a bit differently and probably over-complicating it.

  public void drive(int laps) {
    // Other driving code omitted for clarity purposes
    if(laps > mBarsCount) {
      throw new IllegalArgumentException("Not enough battery remains");
    }
    mBarsCount -= laps;
  }

Hi! Yea, I noticed that too. Changed it after I realized the logic. And I also saw that I had misspelled "Exception"... :)
