Why do i get error: cannot find symbol?

My code is as follows. import java.io.Console;

public class TreeStory {

public static void main(String[] args) {
  int age = 12;
  if (age < 13) {
    //Insert exit code
    console.printf("Sorry you must be at least 13 to use this program.\n");
    System.exit(0);

  }

}

}

Then I get below error. TreeStory.java:9: error: cannot find symbol
console.printf("Sorry you must be at least 13 to use this program.\n");
^
symbol: variable console
location: class TreeStory

You are missing the declaration of console:

import java.io.Console;

public class TreeStory {

public static void main(String[] args) {

  Console console = System.console();

  int age = 12;
  if (age < 13) {
    //Insert exit code
    console.printf("Sorry you must be at least 13 to use this program.\n");
    System.exit(0);

  }

}
}

Thank you for the help.
