Why do we need 'camel case '?

I mean, from the start. I googled it and it starts with lower case .. Why do we need it? just in order to make it look neat?

I believe it was intended to make code easier to read when you would name variables and such. So if you had something with a long name like:

varfortwotimesten

It's easier to read with camel case if you don't use any other spacing, such as an underscore:

varForTwoTimesTen

Hope that helps :)
