Why does classList.add() not add the "expanded" and "show" class multiple times each time the addEventListener is called

Hello, I am sure I'm seeing this incorrectly, but why does the classList.add() not continuously add the "expanded" and "show" class each time the addEventListener is triggered? I

As found on MDN:

The add() method of the DOMTokenList interface adds the given tokens to the list, omitting any that are already present.
