JavaScript JavaScript and the DOM (Retiring) Traversing the DOM Parent Traversal

Why doesn't removeMe.remove() work?

running the script with removeMe.remove(); succeeds in removing it from the view on the right, but "Check Work" claims that removeMe does not have a remove() function.

app.js
var removeMe = document.querySelector('.remove_me');
var parent = removeMe.parentElement;
//parent.removeElement(removeMe)
removeMe.remove();
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <title>Parent Traversal</title>
    </head>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" />
    <body>
        <ul>
            <li>Hello</li>
            <li>Hi</li>
            <li class="remove_me">Good bye!</li>
            <li>Howdy</li>
        </ul>
        <script src="app.js"></script>
    </body>
</html>

Hey John Bachir,

You should use removeChild() method to remove a child node from the DOM.

Here's the final version:

var removeMe = document.querySelector('.remove_me');
var parent = removeMe.parentNode;

parent.removeChild(removeMe);

To learn more about removeChild() method, check out this link: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Node/removeChild

Hope this helps!

Thanks! I know that works, but I thought .remove() also works on any node? Experimenting in console seems to suggest that. but maybe where i tried it had a library adding that function or something.
