21,013 PointsWhy get treehouse rid of the $99/mo techdegree subscription?
Don't get me wrong all the other techdegree subscription methods have for sure their right to exist, but unfortunately all the other techdegree subscription methods are currently too expensive.

32 PointsTechnically you don't have to do the tech degree anyhow.

21,013 PointsThat's right ... actually you don't need necessarily all of this techdergee stuff. In fact only what you need is watching the videos and make your own way.
But one of the benefits of the techdgree is that you can use on one hand a guidance posibility similiar to the treehouse tracks and (for me quite important) on other hand code some projects that matches the techdegrees you choose.

12,236 PointsI'm a big Treehouse fan but when it comes to pricing and presenting the Techdegree, they totally dropped the ball. I was on the fence for a while but the price models changed so many times that I finally gave up. There's a problem with the value model in Techdegree. The most valuable part of their offering (the learning material) is available for 25$. The portfolio and the certificate is not nothing but it sure isn't worth 199$ x 6.

32 PointsJust use freecodecamp if you want experience with projects*
*Use treehouse as well. It's still a great service.

21,013 PointsI think it's a good advice to combine several coding platforms. Especially as I use for instance freecodecamp anyway. Beside freecodecamp there are codecademy, too. But I experienced that some of the HTML concepts there are a little bit too deprecated. For instance why they spent many time to explain what a html table is and for what is good for ... well ... I don't want to complain.

8,600 PointsThe truth is that the success of our students is incredibly important to us, so we decided to remove the $99 Techdegree plan as it wasn't producing successful results for a number of students on it. We found that our students experience better outcomes when they receive support and feedback during the program, which our $199 Techdegree provides through peer project reviews and Slack channel. Our Techdegree students have also given us the feedback that these program elements were extremely helpful and made the program more attractive and effective for them.

16,502 PointsStefan Ihle what is your opinion on freecodecamp? What's the primary benefit you get from it? Why would I use it or not? Thanks :)

Stefan Ihle
21,013 PointsActually I switch permanently over from one coding platform to the other ... just how I feel like. Freecodecamp to respond this topic is quite similiar to codecademy, but I think it's more correct than the other one. Anyway I have this feeling. Don't get me wrong, both are very awesome and also teamtreehouse, too.
The biggest benefit respectively the great thing you get from freecodecamp isn't only the awesome community there themselves as rather the possibility to meet other freecodecamp guys and make all the great coding stuff together.
Teamtreehouse is good for new topic you don't know yet and you want to or you need it to learn. Their videos are very comprehensible and didactic very correct, but you have to take time to work with. Freecodecamp for instance is a non video code learning platform. It means you can all the different tasks and challenges there, without the interrupting from the video themself, but it requires here and there intermediate knowning
