why += is needed?

My question is related to this challenge question. Why is it that within the incrementBy function we cant say width = width + points and we need to use width += points?

Button.swift
class Button {
  var width: Double
  var height: Double

  init(width:Double, height:Double){
    self.width = width
    self.height = height
  }

  func incrementBy(points: Double){
    width += points
    height += points
  }
}

class RoundButton: Button {
  var cornerRadius: Double = 5.0

override func incrementBy(points: Double) {
  width += 7.0
  height += 7.0
  }
}

Yes you can.

width += points is just a shorthand for width = width + points, when writing your own code, you may use either one that you prefer.
