11,398 PointsWhy is the AngularJS course so bad?
I made this technically into a question but I'm really just here to provide some feedback on this course. The whole thing seems so rushed and poorly implemented. To me, Angular is the most interconnected subject out of any that I have studied so far. By that I mean you have lots of separate, modular things working together from different positions in the code. This would lend itself to animations more than any other course but there are none to be found in this course. The narration is full of fluffed words which definitely should have justified a second take. If there were ANY animations, other than simple text-on-screen, at least they could have cut it up a bit.
There's even straight out mistakes: "If I add someone I didn't mean to, I can add them back in with the add button'.
On top of this, the code challenges were often poorly designed and often placed several steps away from the relevant video... not to mention all the apparent problems with missing teachers notes and malfunctioning workspaces.
I personally had trouble concentrating on the blah-de-blah delivery as it was as if a script was spieling out infront of me without the benefit of being able to stop and re-read. This rendered this part of the videos (which is probably close to half), redundant.
Add to all this, the early stages that way overcomplicate things and it's just a very poorly put together course. It's not all bad, I think that with much more emphasis on animating the concepts as well as a better overall design, a lot of the content could be very helpful.
I'm not just here to be nasty. It's obvious that Alex knows his stuff but he's obviously not comfortable in front of the camera and seemingly has a poor ability to empathise with true beginners when it comes to communicating the basics. This can be forgiven, however but what can't be forgiven is the apparent lack of effort that went into the design and production of this course. I know that A LOT of effort would have still gone into it, but in my opinion, simply not enough.
To even get started on this course, I had to go through the Code School 'Shaping Up With AngularJS' tutorial, just so I could grip onto some of the stream of words that were being talked at me. The code school course does an amazing job of animating and dynamically showing all relevant parts of the code at once and is presented with flair and conviction by Greg Pollack who makes excellent use of emphasis, gestures and timing to delineate the different aspects of which he's speaking. This coupled with the excellent visual stimulus makes for a course far superior to anything I've seen on Treehouse.
I've enjoyed my time here at Treehouse and I've learnt a lot but the more recent courses really do seem to have gone downhill. I'll be moving over to Code School next month but hopefully Treehouse will take a leaf out of their book and get back to making stimulating, involving courses again.

15,645 PointsHi Jesse, thanks for posting your feedback. To make sure it goes to the right people it would be best to send it in an email to help@teamtreehouse.com. Treehouse staff can then read over your comments and get back to you about your experience with the course.

4,809 PointsHello Tom,
I have two questions. Are there gonna be some changes in this course? And do you know if there are plans to have a Beginner course in angular in the future?

21,526 Pointsi agree that there needs to be a beginner's Angular course before the advanced Angular course. I have taken every single javascript course on treehouse with no issue so far, but the Angular course is very confusing and moves way too quickly for someone new to it to be able to keep up.
Is treehouse working on a beginner or intermediate Angular course?
