Why is the getWords method in the array parsed to a list? - why not create a list directly, without the array

Why getWords method is the array parsed to a list? (getWords is updated around 5:00 in video) - why not create a list directly, fill it and return the list, without creating the array. This feels inefficient.

This is because the .split() method that is being called returns an array so we must first create the array then convert it to a list using the Arrays.asList() method.
