Databases Reporting with SQL Aggregate and Numeric Functions Counting Groups

Why wouldn't this also work?

SELECT count(genre) AS total_genres FROM books GROUP BY genre;

Looks like it's asking you to count number of books per genre the above will give you number of genres. The below should do the trick.

SELECT genre, count(*) AS genre_count

FROM books

GROUP BY genre
