11,459 PointsWonky button behavior
I am trying to fix some strange button behavior on my site. When I preview my site, the buttons appear in reverse order. Additionally, when I make my browser smaller than about 350, the buttons drop to the next line.
I've tried to use the first-child pseudo element, but the behavior persists.
Any help would be appreciated.

A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which I enjoy with my whole heart. I am alone, and feel the charm of existence in this spot, which was created for the bliss of souls like mine. I am so happy, my dear friend, so absorbed in the exquisite sense of mere tranquil existence, that I neglect my talents.

I should be incapable of drawing a single stroke at the present moment; and yet I feel that I never was a greater artist than now. When, while the lovely valley teems with vapour around me, and the meridian sun strikes the upper surface of the impenetrable foliage of my trees, and but a few stray gleams steal into the inner sanctuary, I throw myself down among the tall grass by the trickling stream; and, as I lie close to the earth, a thousand unknown plants are noticed by me: when I hear the buzz of the little world among the stalks, and grow familiar with the countless indescribable forms of the insects and flies, then I feel the presence of the Almighty, who formed us in his own image, and the breath

20,422 Pointsyour buttons are in reverse order, because you are floating them to the "right". also, instead of floating the links (a), try floating the li elements, and float them to the left. Then float the ul to the right.
.main-nav li{
float: left;
display: inline-block;
}
.main-nav ul{
float: right;
}
think of your button as a combination between the "li" and "a" elements, and your "ul" is their container. a lot of your styles can go in the li element, since it's the parent of the link...after playing around here is what I came up with that might help you at solving your problem, and if anyone has a more appropriate solution, by all means...
.main-nav ul{
float: right;
}
.main-nav li{
float: left;
display: inline-block;
background: #ff00ff;
color: #262626;
margin-right: 5px;
padding: 10px;
border-radius: 5px;
}
.main-nav li a {
text-decoration: none;
padding: 10px;
border-radius: 5px;
}

11,459 PointsSo I'm floating the outer container (the ul) to the left, then the elements within it to the right? I can't seem to conceptualize how floats work with nested elements. Every time I try to use them everything breaks.

"So I'm floating the outer container (the ul) to the left, then the elements within it to the right? I can't seem to conceptualize how floats work with nested elements. Every time I try to use them everything breaks."
your actually floating the UL (or what's in the UL) to the right, and the LI's to the left.
floats can be kind of confusing...when you "float" to the right, you are moving everything to the right. so if you have 1, 2, 3, 4 and I float to the right, 1 will go the right 1st, 2, 2nd, 3, 3rd, and so on...which is why it appears in reverse order. To the left moves 1 to the left, then 2, then 3, etc...
