WordCamp Philly

Is anyone from Treehouse going to WordCamp Philly this weekend? Would be fun to meet up with some Treehouse students.

Michael Russell, definitely go. WordCamps are unique in the web design world of conferences in that a good half of the people going are really fascinating people who use WordPress in a lot of different ways, but not necessarily as developers or coders. You will likely meet a number of inspiring and good to know people. If you have the opportunity to go, I definitely would recommend it. And be social! "So, what do you do with WordPress.." is usually enough tho ;)

I am thinking about going, since it's not far from where I live.

You should probably get a ticket sooner than later. I know they don't have a ton left and I'm sure there will be a lot of purchases on Friday.

I am not going but I am interested in what happens at a WordCamp; can anyone tell me why it would worth attending, or what are the key benefits, especially what Treehouse students might get out of a meet up?

I'm a librarian and we are considering purchasing Treehouse for our library and i have to think about how we could "promote" the service, a "meet up" sounds interesting, is it common in people's experience, actually getting together in real life with other Treehouse students.

For only $20 I think it's hard to beat. The sessions look great and very informative. They have tracks catered to certain user types. Plus it's a great way to meet others in the WP community.

For myself, I'm really interested in the info about starting off a career with WordPress and the experiences of people who've "made it". Plus there's some really interesting info about the development aspects and the new things happening with WordPress.

I'll be sure to post on the forum about my experience as a first-time WordCamper.

Zac Gordon would be a great person to ask this question to.

Ok, here's my report from WordCamp Philly 2014

First impression: AWESOMENESS TO THE EXTREME!

Was greeted by very enthusiastic people as well as a Philly soft pretzel in the shape of a "W". People were friendly from the beginning and the common opener used by just about everyone was indeed "So, what do you do with WordPress?"

I met all sorts of people from end users running their own personal site to long-time developers that make their living with WordPress to big-time professionals like Helen Hou-Sandi who is the Project Lead for 4.0.

The talks were all over the place, in a good way. They had four tracks, Power User, Developer, Designer, and User. I am pretty sure I attended at least one from each track. Most of them had actionable steps that you could try out or use immediately.

I can't wait to get more involved in the WordPress community and it was motivational beyond belief.

The after party... phenomenal!

After trying to get my work to pay for all sorts of conferences like An Event Apart and a couple others that would total over $1,000 easily. I can't believe that this amazing get together cost only $20. The value was way beyond the cost of a ticket.

There were other benefits that weren't official too. Like the expertly manned "Happiness Bar" where you could bring your WordPress problems to be solved by experts, for free. A lot of people fixed their websites right on the spot.

I didn't go to the second "Contributor Day", but judging from the tweets, it looked like quite a success.

Thanks for your report. Been to a lot of conferences in my career, this sounds like one of the best.
