Wordpress theme development and bootstrap to Wordpress theme development...

Hi Zac Gordon, Teachers at TreeHouse,

Could you tell me if WP theme development or Bootstrap to WP theme development is from scratch.

Do we basically build a brand new theme including function.php and related files from scratch?

Hello Some Person,

Yes you do :) you will build out a fully working theme using bootstrap as a framework, different page template styles, integrating a bootstrap nav with WP and much more all from the ground up.

As well as this you will be shown some of the best plugins to use with a bootstrap WP site to make adding bootstrap components available in the WP Editor to.

I made my own plugin based on an idea from this course here.

Hope this helps Craig

Could I just start with bootstrap to Wordpress theme development? or do I need to first review WordPress Theme development?

I have made websites with bootstrap and PHP. So I do have very good experience on the framework. I also have tweaked existing theme to make it custom theme. But I have never made any theme from scratch.

What do you suggest?

I would suggest securing your knowledge of WordPress PHP with the PHP for Wordpress course, this may just give you a few more insights before developing a theme from scratch as the Bootstrap to WP really does dive deep in to WordPress.

From there the WordPress Template Hierarchy course will be just what you need to start getting to grips with the way your template files can be used to good affect and give you a huge insight into how WordPress theme files and templates work. This was a super insightful and informative course!

I am suggesting this route as Zac doesn't really go over the features of Bootstrap(which you know already anyway) and how to use them, more and in depth look into how to integrate some of these features with WordPress.

I will say that this route could be expanded upon with the WordPress Theme Development course prior to the Bootstrap to WP course however under the circumstance I would say the first two will get you going :)

Hope this helps, and is you need help through any of the course you can always tag me in the question, just put the "@" symbol before my name and ill get an email and be happy to help :)
