Java

Your thoughts about the Java track?

Hi there,

I've been learning in the Front-End track for a few weeks (html, css and JavaScript), but now I got a great idea for an app and I'm thinking about learning how to make it myself by learning Java from the Java track and then move on to the Android track.

My question for you (who have tried the Java track):

What is your thoughts about the track? Did you like it and did you actually learn enough skills to make your very own project(s) without any assistance from the teacher?

I am just at the middle of this track, but i have to say that Craig Dennis is a good teacher who explains a lot. The examples are great. The difficulity of the courses also raises fast. Keep in mind that you wont start to make android apps after that course ;) We will learn to create GUI with JavaFX though. There is still an Android track on TH.

But I have to say that i work with C# ... a very very similar language ...so it was quiet easy for me to start Java.

You Javascript skills are a good start for programming...but you might get confused because of the differences and different concepts.

But when you use the Java docs during the track you should have no problem at all.

Sadly the course is quiet short (2 hours of that track is about JVM and Java IDEs)

Thank you for your thoughts :-)

I just started out trying the Java course and so far I really like the teacher because he seems to make it a lot of fun to learn. I know I wont learn to make apps after the course but I'm thinking if I will learn enough in Java to continue learning about making apps in the android track?

Yes I can see it's very similar to JavaScript with a few changes i.e. how to create variables :-)

If you just want to create apps then you might take a look at crossplatform app developing with nativescript.org, phonegap, apache cordova. jquery mobile, ratchet etc pp (there are a lot of options)
