Now we're gonna be replacing our
image holders with photography and
0:00
our design will really
start to come to life.
0:04
First, let's go into our layers and
0:07
make sure that we're in the correct
layer before we import our image.
0:08
And I'm gonna be starting with
the mobile art board on the left.
0:14
If I just select this image placeholder,
it will also highlight the correct layer.
0:18
So that's a bit of an easier way to do it.
0:22
To place the image we'll go to File,
0:26
Place, and choosing this one.
0:30
When you lay it in, the cursor is going to
be the top left hand corner of your image.
0:35
You can see my image is just
a little larger than the container.
0:42
I'm going to use these image placeholders
as the container for my artwork.
0:48
And we'll be masking.
0:53
So the way you mask in Illustrator
is you have to have two layers,
0:55
the top layer is the container.
1:01
It acts as like a window, basically,
that reveals the image beneath it.
1:04
And when you're creating a mask,
1:08
you want to have the image on the bottom
and the container on the top.
1:11
So I'm gonna drag my image and
my layers over here down to the bottom.
1:16
So that right above it is this image
placeholder, so I'll select both.
1:25
Then I'll go to Object,
Clipping Mask, Make.
1:31
Or, it's Command 7 and
1:36
you can see now that our image is
fitting perfectly inside here.
1:40
So we don't have to do
any crazy movements.
1:46
If I wanted to adjust the size or scale or
1:49
placement of this image within the mask
I can double click inside of it.
1:51
And then I could edit it this way,
and scale up, or do things like that.
1:58
Which I don't want to do,
so I'm going to undo, and
2:03
then get back out of isolation mode.
2:06
Okay?
2:10
I'll do it another time, just to show you,
2:11
so we'll have our container selected.
2:17
Shift+Cmd+P to place the image.
2:21
Place it here.
2:28
Move that over a little bit.
2:31
I will drag it beneath.
2:35
My image placeholder,
select both layers, and
2:38
then go to Object, Clipping Mask,
Make or Command Seven.
2:43
And that's how it works.
2:48
So you can see like so
much is happening already.
2:49
Just adding the events,
that's where all the energy will be.
2:52
So I'm gonna to go through here and
finish adding in these images.
2:56
And I will meet you back and
3:00
we'll be talking about
the best ways to save for web.
