Android students, which would you like to see next? Eclipse or Android Studio?

Up until now, we have used Eclipse as the IDE for our Android projects. Eclipse is still recommended for beginners on the Android Developer site. Android Studio was released this past summer and is currently available as an "early access preview" but will very likely be the IDE of choice for Android for the years to come. So I wonder, what would you as students like to see in the upcoming Build a Self-Destructing Message App? I have my opinions but would love to know yours.

I would want to use Eclipse, since that's what the tutorials are in.

And I can't wait for the next project to come out! ^_^

Id want to try out Android studio :)

QQuestion for you or anyone else here that would know. https://teamtreehouse.com/forum/kitkat

I prefer Android Studio because he has an integral black theme Darcula. It's better for eyes ;)

Thanks everyone for chiming in! It's a pretty even split, which I'm not surprised by. I really want to move to Android Studio, but it's just not ready at this time. As of right now I'm planning on recording with Eclipse and the regular emulator, but including a few supplementary videos on how to setup and use Android Studio and Genymotion for those of you who would like to work through the project in that environment. All of the code is the same, of course, but the new tools take some getting used to, and there are still some bugs being worked out and features being added in Android Studio that don't make it super dependable as a teaching resource at this point. That will probably change soon, though, and we'll be ready!

I'd say Android Studio, since a majority of the tutorials currently available online use Eclipse. So, that would allow us to learn Android Studio along the way.

Keep up the great work!

Eclipse 100%

Id say Android Studio :D cause id love to learn it along da way!

Hey

I'm only new to this and don't have a lot of exposure to different mediums at the moment. I just finished the crystal ball app and liked using eclipse and will move onto the next project.

If I am really going to start writing my own apps and publishing them it's better to have knowledge about all the tools out there especially if this is where the market is moving towards. If however as an "early access preview" it has to many bugs in it then I'd prefer to have this next project in eclipse whilst those bugs get ironed out and have a project in android studio as soon as it is stable enough so I can struggle through learning the code without having to deal with development kit bugs at the same time.

Either way I really enjoyed my last project, thanks heaps for creating the tutorials for us.

Android Studio. I dont like Eclipse for Android dev, only when I write other programs in java.

Tough Decision, let me ask the Crystal Ball.

Update: I asked the Crystal Ball, and the response I received was, "Better not tell you now".

Classic!

Android Studio for me! Following along with Eclipse in the current Android projects has been so helpful for my newbiness and I hope that following along with Android Studio in future projects will be equally enlightening.

Android Studio for me because I don't like Eclipse and Android Studio will definitly be the future of Android Development :-)

Creating a lesson in Android Studio would be a mistake. Maybe if it's fully baked by next I/O. Just my opinion.

I would go for Android Studio, I guess we have to embrace the fact that Android will be designing things catered for that IDE. Embrace the future ;)!

obviously Eclipse.

My answer mirrors Jason Gillett's. If it's ready, then yes, but if it's not, then let's wait till it is.

Thank you Ben :) !
