1,862 PointsLearn HTML and CSS - where'd it go?
I was making my way through the CSS3 portion of my learning adventure and as I logged in today it appears that I haven't even started my CSS3 "adventure".... where'd all the training I took go? I can still see my badges on my profile page... but it looks like I have to start from scratch on CSS3... without warning.
If some trainings are due to be retired - shouldn't I be notified somehow???? Kinda of disheartening, ya know?

Treehouse Project ReviewerYeah, I noticed that as well. A bit disappointing since they said they would go away on the fourth of May.

4,596 PointsSnap, I'd almost completed the css3 portion of the php learning adventure only to grab a drink and come back to my computer to find not only the css3 section ripped out but that I'd lost my earlier progress on the basic html and Css sections.
A little demotivating as I was about to get into media queries before moving into responsive. Now the media queries piece is 'coming soon' having been taken down yesterday.
I wasn't aware this was taking place and it's really took the spring out of my step.
Be nice to get some answers on what's happened here.

Courses Plus Student 2,551 PointsYeah. Same problem here. I wanted to complete it today, my day off only to find that the whole thing was taken off the website!
Nickkkkkkkkkkkk...What happened? Are we meant to start all over again?

3,335 PointsI do like that they've updated the content, and the quizzes and challenges seem a bit more difficult which might be a good thing. But you're right, it would be great to know the future plans for certain learning paths so we could plan around them (and not be caught off guard w/ the wind knocked out of our sails a bit!).

Courses Plus Student 2,551 PointsExactement! I would like to know which videos and quizzes to retake!

28,149 PointsIt said right above those lessons that they were going to be retired on May something (must have been yesterday or today).
They had a little red explanation point next to the warning they would be disappearing.
They even made an announcement in the featured section. https://teamtreehouse.com/forum/css-foundations-second-edition
If you do the current lessons of the remaining CSS deep dive, you won't miss anything. I did both of those lessons and they were a bit outdated for CSS3 today.
They have essentially cleaned up their CSS3 lessons. The only thing I wish they would have done was to complete the newest CSS3 deep dive before removing the two that they did.

4,596 PointsMy mistake then, i can see the benefit of what they're doing. I was just disappointed that media queries as an example was there yesterday and not today. Still, moving into the Responsive Design section of my adventure i guess I'll cover this anyway.

28,149 PointsI hear ya that it's frustrating. Here is a supper quick fly-by on the media queries.
@media (min-width: 960px) {
#myCssSelector {
myProperty: myCode;
}
}
This CSS will apply for any device that has a screen width of at least 960px, like a monitor.
@media (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 978px) {
}
Is for devices with a screen with of at least 481px but no more than 978ps
@media (max-width: 978px) {
}
And thats for devices with a max screen with of 978px.
When I do media queries, I do not set my pixel values based of standard screen sizes, like an iPhone. I pick my pixels sizes based on when certain parts of my page begin to break down, using media queries to re-align, re-size, re-pad, or possible hide or show elements completely.
Using flexible CSS units like ems, percents, etc in your normal CSS code will help minimize the amount of media queries you need, which will make it a lot easier on you. You'll learn a lot more about it later.

Courses Plus Student 2,551 PointsI get it now. I also like the updated content. I guess I will start from scratch as the quizzes and content are different and more difficult.

1,862 PointsLet me say I totally get updating content. I still think this is the greatest training tool out there.
That being said... I didn't see the notification that Kevin Korte mentioned ("It said right above those lessons that they were going to be retired on May something (must have been yesterday or today") on my screen at all (using Chrome so I don't think it'd be a browser issue) and I usually just go right to my lesson when I get online - so I clearly missed any other posting about this. So from my perception this was a surprise. Had I simply received an email on the topic I would have been more prepared... Having gone the twitter route last night Nick asked if an email notification would be beneficial and for me... the way I run through the lessons, an email would be perfect. That's just me though.
I appreciate everyone chiming in & providing information... sounds like I need to spend a little time reading through the forum & through notifications to make sure I know what's coming.

Courses Plus Student 2,551 PointsHey :
Yeah. I get you. It said the content will be retired on May 4 so I wanted to finish my CSS foundations section today before I jumped into the new one. I guess it doesn't matter to me anyway because I would have been doing the new CSS from start to finish.
I guess what I will do is just let go of old and get in with the new. Shame you never saw the update information on your browser. I did but never expected it to be retired today.
That said, I guess if you were planning to do the new CSS anyway, then it doesn't matter much (at least IMO).
Hope you find the perfect solution.

19,833 PointsI noticed the notification about two weeks ago, I think. I believe, it did say May 4th that they would retire the content. On the other hand, I've also noticed when, I've completed a course on a certain day lets say on the 2nd but when I looked on my screen it displayed, I'd finished the course on the 3rd day, instead of the 2nd. So, that could be the reason why the CSS3 adventure is no longer available.
Nick Pettit
Treehouse TeacherHi everyone,
I'm Nick Pettit, the Chief Content Officer at Treehouse.
First, I apologize for the confusion and frustration this has caused. One of the hard parts about teaching technology is that it's always changing. We try our best to keep our videos up to date, and we monitor their "shelf-life" very closely. That means we occasionally need to retire content and replace it with new material, which was the case with our CSS videos.
If you were actively engaged in the old CSS videos and you'd still like to watch them instead of the newly updated material, please email help@teamtreehouse.com and they'll provide you with download links to the videos.
Second, it still looks like we need to do a better job of notifying students before we retire content. In the past, we've just removed stuff at will and it was even more confusing. We tried to improve this by putting outdated content on a 30-day retirement cycle. During that period, we push out notices via our forum and social media, and we also mark the content in our library with a notice in red text. Still, this wasn't enough.
Moving forward, we're going to take the extra step of emailing any students that are actively engaged in the material. We want to give you the option to either finish up before we remove it or hold off until the new content goes live.
Again, I'm so sorry for the frustration that this has caused. We appreciate your feedback and we wouldn't be able to improve our product without amazing students like you!

1,862 PointsThanks Nick. I can't emphasize enough that this is a great site with great content. I think emailing students will help in the future. Personally, I will do a better job of reading through the notifications going forward so I'm doing my part.
Overall - thanks for a great user experience.
