9,767 PointsMight theere be a Jquery foundation stage, possibly with javascript
Just wanted to see if there were any plans for a Jquery and/or Javascript foundation stage.
I worked my way up to interactive website stage in my first week learning html and css. Everything was great. The videos and explanations were really clear and did the most important thing for me when learning. It was explained "WHY" we are doing this.
I got stuck on the first videos of interactive website so went in search of some more basic teachings. I've complete the programming intro and intro to javascript. Both were useful but the intro to Javascript was all done on the console and there was little explanation as to why we do something in order to make something happen. Relating this to the real world is tricky as it was taught in a vacuum almost.
I've now gone over the interactive website stage again but am still at somewhat of a loss. I don't feel I've had the "WHY" explained sufficiently to allow me to go off and work out for myself what I want to do, when and how.
Is it that jquery and java is a lot more difficult to learn then html and css because I've seemingly picked up html and css really quickly and understand it. I'm re-writing my practice homepage daily putting what I learn each day from practicing into action.
In contrast, I still don't really have a clue where I begin with jquery. I'd love a scrolling banner on my page but the videos haven't really taught me how to do it. Just demonstrated writing the code.
I love the Treehouse learning site. I've searched through hundreds of videos on youtube and saw the youtube Treehouse advert. Watched one video and in a week of treehouse have learnt so much more then I had in 2 weeks of other learning resources.
I just think that a stage explaining the fundamentals of java and jquery would be really really useful.

9,767 PointsThanks for that. Been favourited and I'll check it out.
I've just started the PHP stage and the similarities to jquery are obvious. However, I'm not having the same difficulties understanding PHP as I have with jquery. Randy's teaching may actually help me with jquery.
HTML, CSS and PHP so far have come quite quickly to me which is why I'm wandering if it is just that jquery and javascript are much more difficult.

Courses Plus Student 6,441 PointsI just want to say that I agree with Matthew's post. I was progressing well through the HTML and CSS sections but I feel like there is a gap when you get to the interactive website project. A lot of techniques get presented but they are not really explained. It's been frustrating and I think a foundational course that would bring people unfamiliar with javascript and jquery up to speed for the dynamic website project would be really beneficial.
