So I've been following the java track, and I really only feel like I'm getting better at reading code, and not actually using code. I'm all the way into the Data Structures Course with about 3 hours left of it, and I'm starting to feel stuck. It's getting harder and taking longer for me to get these concepts down and I know I will definitely do better if I coded these concepts more. Problem is, I'm not sure how to go about that. I could create new Workspaces that mirrored the lessons and not entirely mimicked them, but then I just feel like I'm regurgitating info in unoriginal ways. What are some suggestions I could use to get better at writing code and not just reading it?
Also I've heard that a raspberry pi is a great tool for learning how to program. I'm exactly sure if it is useful or not, so I want to hear your guys' suggestions.
P.S. So for I've been really enjoying coding. A lot more then I thought I was going to originally when I started with HTML and CSS. I didn't realize I actually liked solving problems, as I'm the lazy type of guy that just sits on the couch after a long day of work, but I find myself coming to treehouse and browsing coding blogs throughout the day. So if any of you want to share how you got started in coding, and what you did to learn and retain all of this information, it'll be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Treehouse TeacherHey Jazz Jones !
As the tracks continue the applications you build we'll leave lots of room for improvement. Java Data Structures is a pretty intense course for sure, and the second half of the course I spread the challenges out more, so you practice retrieving the information from your memory. This will actually help strengthen your knowledge, although might feel challenging in the process ;)
I highly recommend you follow up with the Java Web Development track as we build full blown web applications and there is a ton of room for exploration there. If you are looking to make apps our Android track is also great to explore.
I think once you get out of console apps, which is very soon, you'll start getting more ideas. A lot of people take and tweak the projects we build together in the courses.
I always recommend checking out GitHub and take a look at what is happening in the Open Source Community. I wrote a blog post about OSS.
Hope that helps!
