Norwegian keyboard @ input in console not working.

I tried asking in the relevant video where I needed the help. But it's been 4 days and I want to ask again:

How can I type in the @ symbol in the console? I have a norwegian keyboard and "altgr+2", "ctrl+shift+2", "shift+2", "ctrl+shift+2" all don't do anything or return lots of random signs in the console.

I can't copy paste into the console either with norwegian keyboard it seems.

Hey Andreas, I'm so sorry you're having this issue and have been waiting several days for a response! After doing a search it sounds like this is a pretty common problem with European keyboards. I'm not sure what you are currently using but I found this Issues thread on Github where people are having the same exact issue. They're using bash on windows so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

One of the comments specifically mentions using a Norwegian Keyboard....

"Same here for the Norwegian keyboard. AltGr isn't working, making it much more difficult than it should be to produce symbols like @£$€{[]}

I've also noticed pressing AltGr+5 or AltGr+8 before the desired combination will force it to work as intended. It seems like AltGr+5 (which behaves just like Ctrl+Alt+5) is some kind of readline command. I'm in no way an expert in this, but Ctrl+Alt+5 and then pressing any number will produce (arg: [number]) . Not sure if this is helpful."

There are several suggestions though in that thread, so if the one above doesn't work maybe read through and see if any others do. I hope that helps! Let us know whether that works or not. I'll keep looking in the meantime and see if I can find anything else.

:)

Yeah using "altgr+5" or "altgr+8" before trying to type in @ normally in any possible way does not seem to work like the way they are talking about.

Maybe I should invest in an inexpensive US layout keyboard if I want to continue down this venture.

Bummer, I'm sorry that didn't work for you! I found the following threads in the Treehouse Community of students that faced similar problems. Check them out and let me know if any of their solutions work for you.

Hopefully we can figure something out before you decide to spend money on U.S keyboard! :)

So I switched to UK layout, no luck, then US International layout, no luck. Then lastly I switched to US layout and "shift+2" worked.
