Challenge
If you haven't yet, add a new post titled “Why I Want to Learn WordPress” with a short paragraph on your goals for learning this great content management system.

0:00
Now that we've looked at how to edit pages in WordPress,
-
0:03
let's turn our attention to how to add and edit posts.
-
0:08
To add a new post to our WordPress site,
-
0:10
we can either come in to the post section under the admin area or from the front and
-
0:15
over site, we can use the new post option in the admin tool bar.
-
0:21
Let's come in under posts and
-
0:23
see that like we have a sample page, we also have a sample post.
-
0:28
Let's go ahead and trash this, go into the trash, and
-
0:33
then delete this post permanently.
-
0:36
Now we can come in and add our own new post called Why I Want
-
0:41
to Learn WordPress.
-
0:45
I'm going to go ahead and paste in my own little information here, but
-
0:49
I encourage you to write out some content,
-
0:51
a few sentences that explains your goals for learning about WordPress.
-
0:57
We could see that we have the same visual editor
-
1:00
here that we did when we were editing pages.
-
1:03
We have the same publish options.
-
1:06
However, we also have some new options such as choosing the format
-
1:10
which we'll look at a little bit later as well as adding categories and
-
1:15
tags and the feature image that we saw before.
-
1:19
We also have the screen options tab, which allows us to set things like the excerpt,
-
1:25
trap backs and custom fields, discussion, slug and author.
-
1:30
Since we won't be using any of these, I'll go ahead and
-
1:32
leave screen options as it is by default.
-
1:35
Go ahead and publish my post and click to view the post on the front end.
-
1:41
We could see that our post displays and
-
1:44
we have the option to come back in and edit it if we like.
-
1:48
One additional feature you have is to be able to change the slug of both posts and
-
1:53
pages.
-
1:55
If you come in to edit this area, you can change it to something shorter or
-
2:00
more related to the key words or readability that you're looking for.
-
2:04
For example I can change it to Learning WordPress.
-
2:08
Then when I visit my site, I can see that the URL for this has changed.
-
2:15
If you haven't tried adding your own post yet, go ahead and try that now.
